Michael J C Smith

Michael Smith was educated at Clifton College, Bristol following which he trained as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC) and subsequently spent time with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in the UK and Sydney, Australia.

After an early career in the profession, Michael joined Thomas Cook in Australia spending time with their operations in Australasia, the Far East and Southern Africa that included merger and acquisition activity. He subsequently joined their Head Office in the UK where he was the Travel Group’s International Account.

He then embarked on a career spanning 21 years with HSBC in which he had a variety of roles ending up as a Director within their Capital Markets Division, Michael gained experience working within smaller companies, including pursuing an MBO opportunity in the advertising sector; setting up a private client department for brokers Rudolf Wolff; and launching a groundbreaking hedge fund consultancy specialising in traded commodity funds with PYReco®’s Chairman, Anthony Carter.

In recent years, Michael has spent time business consulting and advising new start-ups and is also the current Commodore of the Sea View Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight, England.
