Steel wire from the magnetic separation unit is fed directly to mechanical compression equipment for easy dispatchment to the steel processing plant.
According to WRAP the steel reprocessing industry has the potential to be a significant outlet for scrap tyre steel. Steve Waite, Project Manager for Tyres at WRAP, explains: “With many thousands of tonnes of steel currently available for recovery in the UK, the opportunities in this market are considerable.”
The average passenger tyre contains approximately 1 kilo of high carbon steel in the form of chopped bead and tread wire.
PYReco's steel is extracted magnetically, and sold as scrap. Scrap values for reclaimed steel follow steel prices.
The value of steel scrap is less than 10% of total anticipated revenues.
