Smoke clouds from fire at Durham industrial estate
APRIL 22 2010
People living in County Durham have been told that the smoke produced by a fire at an industrial estate should not present a health hazard.
The incident at Littleburn Industrial Estate near Langley Moor has now been brought under control.
However, the smouldering tyres continue to produced large volumes of smoke.
The Health Protection Agency said that while it was not dangerous, it could worsen existing health problems, and warned people to take precautions.
Anyone with respiratory conditions such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma should limit time spent in outside areas affected by the smoke.
They should also ensure they have any inhalers or other medication they use with them.
